re: Cuadra's XML services, we have some users that access the XML API directly and a few others that use a PHP interface that we created to simplify the query packaging so that one can fetch documents via HTTP directly. A little goofy that this needed to be done, but it works well for us.

I don't know why they didn't enable it 'out-of-the box' for URL-based queries (say, a switch in a FastLink URL), but this must be related to their web app environment (for example, they **still** don't expose users' searches as actionable URLs that can be saved, bookmarked, modified etc...instead you have to expose their so-called FASTLINKs for users to do that -- very annoying).

Did you use the default java xmlclient program to consume their xml services, or did you integrate it somehow. Their xml service seems very non standard.

Ed -- we're not formally using the STAR Knowledge Centre for Libraries, but instead using parts of that application for other specialized bibliographic applications (we're in the process of merging three separate departmental libraries, so our mix of ILS's includes III's Millennium and SirsiDynix's Unicorn).

I read your comments with great interest. I just started at a special library using Cuadra and I find it all a bit convoluted... and I was formerly a SirsiDynix Horizon systems librarian. But I probably just need to give it a chance and learn as much as I can before passing judgment. Pity there's no listserv for Cuadra customers to share experiences, insights.

I agree with your sentiments about the Cuadra folks, and Carlos Cuadra in particular. In the software biz, there are no better.
I fear that their honesty and integrity will soon be pushed aside by the management of Sydney. I hope you are right and Cuadra management style will remain in place, at least where it pertains to existing STAR clients.
Best regards,
Joni
